Nova’s Story:
Nova recently underwent a life-saving surgery that prevented her from needing to be humanely euthanized. It all began in mid-June when she accidentally ran into a rolled-up cattle fence. Although she limped for a moment, she quickly seemed to recover, so her mom didn’t think much of it. But a few weeks later, Nova started to "bob" her head during walks, which raised concern. Her mom took her to the vet, where they initially suspected growing pains and prescribed carprofen (a dog-safe anti-inflammatory) since they couldn't pinpoint the exact source of her discomfort.
Unfortunately, Nova's limp worsened over time, and it became clear that only her front left leg was affected. An X-ray revealed some distressing news: she had injured a growth plate during her tumble, which had led to improper growth of her radius bone. As a result, the vet had to remove a 2 cm section of bone from her ulna and attempt to repair her "incongruent" elbow. Although Nova's leg will never be entirely normal—remaining shorter than the others and prone to arthritis—there is hope for improved mobility.
Thankfully, Nova's vet recommended an orthopedic surgeon who specialized in her injury and successfully performed the surgery to help improve the use of her leg. The surgeon assured Nova's mom that there was nothing more she could have done—no intervention could have revealed the injury to the growth plate sooner, even if an X-ray had been taken immediately. Despite everything, Nova remains the sweetest, most loving pup, bravely enduring all that her little body has gone through.
Times are tough, and the unexpected cost of this critical surgery has added to the strain. Nova's mom was able to cover the procedure with a CareCredit card, but the payment is coming due soon. To help ease the financial burden, I’m offering discounted Paws and Pals mini sessions, with the goal of raising enough funds to cover Nova's surgery. Our location is dog-friendly if you want to bring your pup, however it’s not required. These sessions would be great for any session; family, couples, kids, headshots, etc.. Any additional funds raised beyond the cost of the surgery will be donated to Nova’s mom's choice of a local pet rescue. Either way, 100% of your session fee will help a rescue animal.
If you are not interested in a session, but you’d like to make a donation you can send your donation via Venmo. No donation is too small, even a few bucks can add up. Everyone that does a donation of at least $20 will be entered into a drawing to win a free mini session with Kristy!
